KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd (ASNB), a subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), has declared an income distribution of 6.5 sen per unit for Amanah Saham Didik (ASD) for the financial year ended June 30.

PNB president and group chief executive Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman said the income distribution was higher than the 6.35 sen it paid in the previous corresponding period.

“We can afford to pay more than 10 sen per unit but decided to give 6.5 sen as we think it is quite reasonable,” he said at the ASD income distribution announcement yesterday.

PNB chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji said the income distribution would involve a total payment of RM256.73mil, an increase of 25.19% compared with the total distribution of RM205.07mil last year.

“Up to June 9, ASD recorded a gross income of RM332.94mil. Profit from the sale of shares contributed RM180.23mil or 54.13% to the total income and dividend income from investee companies contributed RM113.63mil or 34.13%,”he said.

He added that the remaining income of RM39.08mil or 11.74% was derived from investment in short term instruments.

“The income distribution will benefit 344,655 unit holders who collectively owned 3.99 billion units of the ASD,” he said.

Ahmad Sarji said all transactions for ASD at the ASNB offices and agents would be suspended from June 22 to June 30 to facilitate the calculation of income distribution.

“Unit holders will be able to update their accounts at ASNB offices and agents nationwide beginning July 1 when transactions resume,” he said.

The income distribution of ASD would be automatically re-invested in the form of units and credited into the unit holder’s accounts on July 1. For the unit holders who subscribed to the ASD through the Employees’ Provident Fund’s (EPF) Members’ Investment Scheme, the income distribution would be credited directly into the respective EPF accounts.
